🎹🌙 Happy Birthday to Frank Sinatra! We are pleased that his legendary Bösendorfer piano has found a new home at The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music. This iconic instrument, rich with musical history, will now inspire and elevate our students as they carry forward its timeless legacy. Enjoy this rendition of “Fly Me to the Moon,” a Sinatra standard by Hugo Nguyen (vocals) and Miles Lennox (on the Bösendorfer 275).

🎹✨ A timeless treasure arrives at The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music! Nancy and Tina Sinatra have begun the process of gifting the school of music an incredible piece of music history: Frank Sinatra`s Bösendorfer grand piano, originally given to him by composer and collaborator Jimmy Van Heusen.
On December 4, Tina Sinatra arrived to see the piano brought out of storage since 1998. Our own piano faculty David Kaplan was on hand to test out the venerable grand, and we are pleased to share that its sound is as majestic as its legacy. 🎶

David Kaplan`s 2024 album "New Dances of the League of David" has been named a top classical album of 2024 by Textura Magazine (instrumental solo category). "A more fascinating and original treatment of Robert Schumann`s music," writes Textura magazine, "would be hard to imagine." Combining Schumann`s Davidsbündlertänze with commissions from composers responding to Schumann`s 1830 work, makes it "a riveting portrait in 28 parts."

Textura Magazine just named "Serenade with a Dandelion" one of the top twenty classical albums (quartet, ensemble or orchestral category). The 4 disc set was the vision of Movses Pogossian and Varty Manouelian and features UCLA faculty Jan Berry Baker and Che-Yen Chen. Textura praised the compilation as "extremely accessible" and "a stunning act of curation... [that] captures the incredible richness of Armenian music, past and present."
