SUMMARY:uclaFLUX
DESCRIPTION:This quarter\, uclaFLUX has explored text scores and graphic scores for unspecified (“open”) instrumentation with violist Dr. Wendy Richman. The concert will include works by Leah Asher\, Christine Burke\, Eva-Maria Houben\, and Pauline Oliveros\, performed by Ally Cho\, Gabriel Esperon\, Katya Lynch\, Kaya Ralls\, Samantha Reavis\, Wendy Richman\, and Isaac Visoutsy. The viola/organ duo of Mingye Wang and Emma Yim will perform Adolphus Hailstork’s Three Meditations. \nPlease note that while the concert will start and end in Schoenberg Hall\, the Hailstork performance will take place in the organ studio (1655A) midway through the concert. \n\nuclaFLUX is devoted to the performance of chamber music from the 20th and 21st centuries. We explore and embrace new performance approaches and techniques associated with the dynamic\, ever-evolving languages of contemporary music. In preparing to perform and produce quarterly concerts\, students learn innovative modes of expression\, interact directly with composers\, and develop skills in concert promotion\, production\, and entrepreneurship. Repertoire is chosen according to enrollment\, though pre-formed groupings are welcomed. Interested students must be in attendance on Day One\, when instrumentalists\, singers\, and conductors are invited to audition. \n\nThis event is made possible by the David and Irmgard Dobrow Fund. Classical music was a passion of the Dobrows\, who established a generous endowment at The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music to make programs like this possible. We are proud to celebrate this program as part of the 2024 – 25 Dobrow Series.
