Transfer Coursework FAQ

Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC)
Submit your official IGETC certification by September 1, 2025

Students admitted as transfer students with the completion of UC IGETC (Intersegmental General Education Curriculum) satisfy the following School of Music course requirements: Quantitative reasoning, General Education, Foreign Language requirement. Completion of IGETC does not always waive a student from completion of the University’s American History and Institutions course requirement and the School of Music Diversity course requirement.

FULL IGETC: If you completed IGETC, please connect with your community college to request your official transcript be sent UCLA Admission. Please ensure your transcript or certification states full UC IGETC satisfaction.

PARTIAL IGETC: The completion of all but 1 or 2 courses towards IGETC, is considered Partial IGETC. If you have Partial IGETC, please connect with your community college to request an IGETC Certification form be sent to UCLA Admission.

All transcripts submitted to UCLA must be official. Please visit the Undergraduate Admission website for more information on sending official records to UCLA.

Submit your official UC Reciprocity certification by September 1, 2025

Students who transfer to UCLA from another UC campus may be eligible for UC Reciprocity. This means that if you have completed all General Education (GE) requirements of the UC Campus you previously attended before you transfer, you will be exempt from completing UCLA’s GE requirements upon matriculation.

For more information about UC Reciprocity and Transfer Admissions, please refer to UCLA Undergraduate Admission.

Students who complete coursework outside of UCLA are able to submit petition requests for transfer coursework to be considered to satisfy UCLA requirements.

When you attend New Student Orientation, you and your advisor will identify if you have any previous coursework that should be petitioned toward UCLA requirements. If you have any specific courses in mind, please ensure you have access to the respective course syllabus, as this is required for a petition request.

After attending Orientation, you can begin the process of petitioning your previous coursework toward UCLA degree requirements. Petition approval is not guaranteed.
