Martin Hundley, Community Engagement Programs Manager

This week-long intensive introduces the real-world experiences foundational to the music industry, connecting those to practical and theoretical frameworks to familiarize students with what it takes to be leaders in the industry. We’ll examine the inner workings of the music industry, considering economic, political, social and material perspectives. Throughout the course, students will collaborate, culminating in a mock album release, festival launch or label launch for a final project of their choice that will be showcased and reviewed by industry professionals.

Robert Fink, Chair of Music Industry in UCLA’s Herb Alpert School of Music; industry insiders such as Peanut Butter Wolf (Stones Throw Records), Lauren A. Spalding (FEMME HOUSE and Animal Talk Collective), and other guests will educate students, sharing tips and industry wisdom. Well-crafted assignments and experiential learning that replicate contemporary industry practices will combine with behind-the-scenes stories and masterclass training from professionals, giving a taste of what UCLA’s Music Industry Program has to offer and helping students acquire the real-world skills necessary for a career in “the industry.”
