Record, edit, mix and master your projects in the school’s state-of-the-art 4,300 square foot recording studio, available free of charge for all school of music students and faculty. Designed to create the sensation of being inside a musical instrument, the studio walls incorporate a custom-designed wooden “baffle” of Douglas fir and spruce, which absorbs and reflects sound back into the space. The acoustics are live enough to make a solo violinist sound warm and vibrant, yet dry enough to give the clarity and control necessary in a professional recording.
Engineering is performed by a pool of top-level external recording engineers who are hired on a project-by-project basis to pair individual expertise, from large classical orchestral music to EDM. The school waives any copyright ownership over the recorded sound, enabling students and faculty the freedom to publish their work in any form, including commercial and non-commercial recording labels. Since its opening on April 1, 2016, the studio has recorded more than 300 projects in a great variety of musical traditions.
