Supporting Our Applicants During the Global Pandemic

Dear prospective students,

In this time of uncertainty, we remain committed to the health and safety of our current and prospective students. Current circumstances call us to reimagine how we might best support students applying for fall 2021 entry to one of the degree programs offered by the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music. We affirm the following for prospective students affected by COVID-19:

  • For undergraduates, UC has temporarily adjusted admissions requirements. You may read more about what this entails here.
  • We will exercise understanding and compassion for students who must record prescreening videos in less than desirable circumstances (e.g. without high-end technology). We will also be understanding of students unable to perform with piano accompaniment in their prescreening videos, given social distancing guidelines; you may perform with an actual pianist, with pre-recorded piano tracks or intelligent accompaniment software, or without accompaniment, and it will not adversely affect consideration of your application.
  • As UCLA remains closed for the health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff, we will be conducting all final round auditions in the live-virtual format via Acceptd’s AuditionRoom application, which utilizes Zoom. Auditions will occur in late January and early February. Only students who pass prescreening will be invited to schedule auditions.
  • We are proud to offer a variety of virtual events and webinars this Fall through which you can engage with admissions staff and current students; click here to explore those opportunities.

We wish you, your family, and your friends continued health and safety, and hope that you might take comfort in our commitment to supporting you in the pursuit of your dreams despite these challenging times.
