UCLA Early Music Ensemble presents: The Voyage of St. Ursula and her 11,000 Virgins

Ensemble Room: Ostin Music Center

This program depicts the martyrdom of Ursula and her 11,000 maidens. We will peer through numerous lenses: time, space, gender, class... What was this woman's story? How did women tell it? How did men tell it? How did Germans/Italians/French people tell it? Is it possible to know the "truth," and if so, what does that sound like? How does sound tell a story? Audiences will hear music on period instruments from the Middle Ages through the Baroque. Composers include: Hildegard von Bingen, Erasmus Widmann, Johann Hermann Schein, Alessandro Scarlatti, and various contributors to the 18th Century Ursuline Manuscript of New Orleans.
