Join us for an evening of Hindustani classical music featuring Sumeet Anand in concert. Sumeet belongs to the Darbhanga Dhrupad vocalist tradition, a centuries-old family of musicians from North Bihar in India. Dhrupad is the oldest surviving genre of Hindustani classical music. Some trace its origin to the tradition of Chhanda-prabandha, and it is believed to have evolved from Salagsuda prabandha, now a lost tradition. It was also sung in royal courts.
Dr. Sumeet Anand will be at UCLA for Fall and Winter as a Fulbright Professional Fellow. Trained for 25 years in the Guru-Shishya Parampara (Master-Disciple Tradition) and having a professional career spanning 15 years, he has earned recognition as a performer, teacher, and researcher in India and abroad.
