Housed in the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz Performance at UCLA, the Hancock Institute Jazz Outreach Program allows the gifted fellows of the Herbie Hancock Institute Ensemble to share their talent with future generations of musicians. Hancock Fellows experiment in expanding jazz in new directions, while honing their skills through study with legendary architects of the music including Hancock and Wayne Shorter, who serve on the school of music faculty. Using this knowledge, the fellows present clinics and master classes, perform at community and international events, and teach private lessons to students throughout greater Los Angeles.
In Los Angeles, the Hancock Fellows teach and present clinics at a variety of sites including the Washington Preparatory High School, Ramon C. Cortines School for Visual and Performing Arts, John Marshall High School, Hamilton High School, Foshay Learning Center, Eagle Rock High School, John F. Kennedy High School, El Sereno Middle School, Walter Reed Middle School, and Bret Hart Middle School.
