The 2020 Ciro Zoppo Graduate Student Award Concert Digital Experience

Welcome to the 2020 Ciro Zoppo Graduate Student Award Concert!

Presented by Kacie Morgan

In response to the unforeseen circumstances of Covid-19, this year’s concert has taken on a new, digital format. The 2020 Ciro Zoppo Graduate Student Award Digital Concert Experience allows you, the listener, to listen to the medieval polyphonic repertoire from Notre-Dame of Paris while enjoying a two and three-dimensional virtual cathedral tour. The concert moves you from the exterior of the cathedral, into the nave, through the transept, and ends in the choir of the cathedral. As you move, you’ll hear two, three, and four-voice polyphonic settings dating from the twelfth and thirteenth centuries.

You have two viewing experiences available for this concert: a click-to-play video that provides a hands-free watching experience of the concert experience and a manually explorable Prezi.

For those of you wishing to move through the Prezi at your own pace, use the left and right arrow keys to move between frames. In the frames with videos, you’ll need to click play on those yourself (this will likely take two clicks, one to zoom in on the video, the next to hit play). When watching a youtube video, you’ll want to mute the youtube video (you are also prompted to do so at each video to remind you). Additionally, in both YouTube videos, you can click and drag to explore the 3D visuals! The audio for each frame will play automatically, though some take a second or two to begin.

For those of you who want to watch the video, hit play, sit back, and enjoy!

Thank you to Rosemary, Adriana and Gian Zoppo for making the Ciro Zoppo Graduate Student Award possible at The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music. The Ciro Zoppo Graduate Student Award provides Musicology students the opportunity to study and perform the works of lesser-known composers.
