Auditions will be held live and in person on campus during the dates/times reflected on the schedule you access via Acceptd. The deadline to schedule your time slot (if you plan to come in person) is Sunday, January 21, 2024 at 11:59pm PST.
If you cannot attend the audition dates listed, please use Acceptd to upload final video recordings of the audition repertoire in lieu of a live audition. You will not be disadvantaged in our process if you choose the remote option. The deadline to upload final video recordings (if you will be completing the final round remotely) is Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 11:59pm PST.
If you are a graduate Percussion applicant, please be sure to upload your multiple percussion solo video by Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 11:59pm PST.
You can find audition repertoire listed here.
Please note that all DMA finalists must complete a 45-minute writing exam in addition to the final round requirements outlined above. The purpose of this writing assessment is to assess your on-the-spot writing skills. You will not need to do any prior preparation or bring any materials with you to the exam. The exam will be conducted on every campus audition date, as well as once remotely on Saturday, February 10. You may choose to take the exam in person on your audition date or register to take it remotely if that is your preference.
In both cases (remote and in person), you will be able to drop in and take the 45-minute exam any time between 9am and 4pm. If you send in final video recordings in lieu of a live audition, please plan to sign up for the February 10 remote exam.
Accompanist Information
ALL graduate applicants must audition with piano accompaniment.
All applicants are required to submit their accompanist preferences by Wednesday, January 3, 2024 using this form: https://forms.gle/5PAoK6XBMyx5s5bZ9. Applicants have the option of either bringing their own collaborative pianist or requesting one from UCLA prior to the January 3 deadline to do so. The pianist request form must include your repertoire and correct audition time. If requested, the school will then assign you a staff collaborative pianist paid for by UCLA. A 15-20 minute warm-up the hour before your audition and/or a 30 minute rehearsal the day before will also be included if requested. Any additional time, or requests after the deadline will be paid for by the applicant if additional time is available on a first come first served basis.
No late requests for school funded accompanists will be accepted. If you request a staff pianist to be provided by UCLA, you will be contacted 14 days prior to your audition with your accompanist’s name and contact information. If you submit your request by Wednesday, January 3, 2024 and do not hear back 14 days prior to your audition, please email Dr. James Lent at james.lent@schoolofmusic.ucla.edu.
