Freshman and transfer applicants begin the admissions process by completing the University of California Application for Undergraduate Admission. The UC Application opens on August 1 and can be submitted from November 1 to November 30. Only applicants who have indicated Global Jazz Studies as their first choice major for UCLA on the UC Application will be considered for admission to the major.
In order to be eligible for admission, applicants must meet all minimum academic eligibility requirements for admission to the University of California. Visit the University of California website for more information about UC eligibility requirements for freshman applicants and transfer applicants.
School of Music Supplemental Application
All applicants to the Global Jazz Studies major are required to submit a supplemental application. Access to the supplemental application will be provided to applicants via email on a rolling basis following the submission of the UC Application. The supplemental application includes the following components:
- Personal statement
- Unofficial transcripts
- Performance resume (optional)
The submission deadline for the supplemental application is December 12, 2018 (11:59pm PST). For more information on the supplemental application, see the Supplemental Application Worksheet.
All Global Jazz Studies applicants are required to audition with program faculty. The Global Jazz Studies major considers auditions on saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar, string bass, piano, percussion, and voice. Applicants on other world or western instruments may be considered in special cases. All applicants are encouraged to attend on-campus auditions if possible; however, applicants who are unable to attend on-campus auditions may submit video auditions.

Change of Major Applications
Current UCLA students who wish to change their major to Global Jazz Studies or add Global Jazz Studies as a double major are required to meet with the Global Jazz Studies academic advisor, submit a supplemental application, and complete an audition with department faculty. See Change of Major Information and review the audition requirements above.
