About Remote Auditions/Interviews

Congratulations on making it to final round auditions and/or interviews at The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music!

Due to the current pandemic situation, we are unfortunately unable to welcome you to campus in January and February 2022. After careful consideration of the health and safety of the campus community, we have come to the difficult decision to conduct final round auditions/interviews remotely, utilizing the AuditionRoom software developed by Acceptd.

Below please find the final round requirements for each program, along with specific requirements for each instrument/voice area (if applicable). Please read these requirements thoroughly. Applicants to performance-based programs will be required to upload final round audition videos, following the repertoire requirements for their specific areas, and to schedule a remote interview with faculty, which will take place via Acceptd’s AuditionRoom (an audition coordination software that utilizes Zoom technology). Applicants to non-performance programs will simply need to schedule their remote interviews, which will also take place via AuditionRoom.

If you have any questions after thoroughly reading this page, please reach out to admissions@schoolofmusic.ucla.edu.

For final round audition video recordings, please note the following:

We will exercise understanding and compassion for applicants who must record videos in less than desirable circumstances (e.g. without high-end technology). We will also be understanding of applicants unable to perform with accompaniment, given social distancing guidelines; you may perform with an actual pianist, with prerecorded piano tracks or intelligent accompaniment software, or without accompaniment, and it will not adversely affect consideration of your application. The recorded videos must be unedited, but full movements can be recorded separately.

The purpose of this writing assessment is to assess your on-the-spot writing skills. You will not need to do any prior preparation. The exam will be conducted on camera in a Zoom room. You must hand-write the exam and then drop a legible scan or photo of the exam into a Box drive that the adjudicator will link in the room. The room will be open from 10am PST to 4pm PST on Saturday, January 23 and Sunday, January 30. You can drop in any time in those 6 hours to take the 45-minute exam. The prompts will be on the screen when you enter. An adjudicator will be there to answer any questions you may have and to let you know when your time is up.
