Anoush Suni
Oud, Armenian Music Ensemble

Anoush Suni is an oud fellow under the mentorship of Antranig Kzirian during theĀ 2024-2025 academic year.

Anoush Tamar Suni is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Promise Armenian Institute at the University of California, Los Angeles. She earned her PhD in sociocultural anthropology from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2019. She is currently working on her book project, which investigates questions of memory and the material legacies of state violence in the region of Van with a focus on the historic Armenian and contemporary Kurdish communities. Growing up in a musical family, Anoush studied classical violin before later becoming interested in guitar, saz (baglama) and oud. Anoush was awarded a 2009-2010 Thomas J. Watson Fellowship, with which she travelled to Armenia, Jordan, and Turkey, to study folk music on the oud. As a VEM fellow, Anoush is excited to continue her longtime interest in the oud and Armenian folk music.
