Schoolwide Student Financial Support - The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music

Dean's Opportunity Fund

Each year, the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music welcomes students to apply for the Dean’s Opportunity Fund. Students may request use of the Dean’s Opportunity fund for new activities and projects. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and will be awarded based on the benefit to the student and the allowability and feasibility of proposed expenses. All students are eligible to apply, with priority being given to students who have not received funding from the DOF over the past three years.

Overview

The Dean’s Opportunity Fund is intended to support professional development activities and projects for students. Applications will be due with two deadlines in the 2026-27 academic year, outlined below. All students are eligible to apply. While students are welcome to apply for projects that support their professional development, preference will be given to applications that demonstrate collaboration across disciplines represented at the School of Music. Students should apply for proposed projects that take place prior to June 30, 2027.

Application Instructions

This fund is intended to complement — not duplicate — existing university-wide financial support resources. Students facing an immediate financial or basic-needs crisis (e.g., food insecurity, housing instability, or unexpected emergency expenses) should first contact UCLA’s Economic Crisis Response Team (ECRT) or via the ECRT Self-Assessment Intake form, as ECRT coordinates emergency grants, loans, and case management in partnership with the Financial Aid & Scholarships Office. Students with questions about eligibility, application status, or how this scholarship fund specifically supports Music students should contact the Student Affairs Office directly at osa@schoolofmusic.ucla.edu for further assistance.
