Day two of the festival continues to spotlight artist-driven expression, featuring a vibrant cross-section of ensembles that emphasize individuality, collaboration, and creative range. The Clayton Cameron Combo, led by Clayton Cameron, brings a rhythm-forward approach that highlights nuanced groove, dynamic interplay, and the spontaneous energy of small-group performance. The Ginger Smock String Ensemble, led by Regina Carter, honors the legacy of Ginger Smock, blending classical string textures with jazz sensibilities to create a rich, expressive soundscape rooted in both tradition and innovation.

Rounding out the program is the Jazz Orchestra, led by Charley Harrison, whose large ensemble format provides a powerful platform for bold arrangements, intricate textures, and expansive musical storytelling. Together, these groups offer a compelling continuation of the festival’s focus on distinct artistic voices, pushing boundaries while remaining deeply connected to the evolving language of jazz.

Acknowledgment

The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music acknowledges the Gabrielino/Tongva peoples as the traditional land caretakers of Tovaangar (the Los Angeles basin and So. Channel Islands). As a land grant institution, we pay our respects to the Honuukvetam (Ancestors), ‘Ahiihirom (Elders) and ‘Eyoohiinkem (our relatives/relations) past, present and emerging.

We would also like to acknowledge the impact on our city and community of the recent wildfires and their aftermath. We believe that art and scholarship can provide comfort in times of great suffering.
