A Symposium on Steve Reich’s Works Influenced by Judaism

Lani Hall Watch Livestream
Join us before the Steve Reich @ 90 performance for an enlightening discussion.
Many factors (language, speech, text) make up the programmatic content of a series of Steve Reich’s works - we are focusing on the Jewish themed works. The symposium seeks to problematize the Jewish aspects of Reich’s work, which has been a significant influence in recent decades.  Andrea Moore, a grad of the UCLA Musicology doctoral program, will focus on WTC 9/11 as a 9/11 commemoration piece and Ryan Scott Ebright, Associate Professor of Musicology at Bowling Green State University, will focus on The Cave. UCLA Professor of Musicology and Music Industry Robert Fink, an expert on minimalism, will also participate in the panel.

This event is made possible by the Lowell Milken Center for Music of American Jewish Experience at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music.
