Sumner Arano is a bassoonist and contrabassoonist whose performance and teaching range spans the Southland. She performs frequently with the Pacific Opera Project, where she contributes “virtuoso touches” (Classical Voice America) to the award-winning company’s orchestra, and has appeared with artists such as jazz legends Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter, and ensembles including New Parnassus, the Incidental Chamber Players, the Jacaranda Chamber Ensemble, and the Burbank Chamber Music Society. Ms. Arano holds a Master’s in bassoon performance from Carnegie Mellon University and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from UCLA, where she was a Regents Scholar with concentrations in bassoon performance and music education. Her primary teachers include Nancy Goeres, John Steinmetz, and John Campbell.
