UCLA Bruin Marching Band

"The Solid Gold Sound"

The “Solid Gold Sound” UCLA Marching Band is the largest and one of the most diverse organizations on the UCLA campus. 250+ members representing more than 100 majors in every College and School at UCLA perform for every home football game at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA. Additionally, band members play at all UCLA Men’s Basketball and Women’s Basketball home games in historic Pauley Pavilion. Although many band members are majoring in music, a majority of students (~87%) are not music majors.

Audition/Membership Questions

How do I join?

ALL new and returning band members should fill out this form:
Woodwind and Brass: You will submit a brief audition video of yourself playing and upload it to this Google Drive. If you have any issues obtaining an instrument (e.g., tuba), please let us know.
Drumline and Color Guard: You will arrive one day early to Band Camp, during which the area coordinators will audition and place members. For more information, please reach out to Nicole Casino (Drumline) or Dixie Zapeta (Color Guard)

Absolutely nothing! There is no band membership fee or dues. We provide all uniform parts, including gloves and shoes. Additionally, all band members receive a Nike polo and shoes as a secondary uniform. We do ask members to provide a pair of khakis but encourage students to reach out if there are any affordability concerns.

As one of the world’s leading research universities, we understand that students have rigorous courses of study and major requirements. We rehearse 3 days per week in the evenings (Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday) for 2 hours each day. Additionally, absences for class conflicts, exams, illness, and/or emergencies are excused. There are generally no full-band events on non-game weekends.

Yes. All students will receive a Permission to Enroll (PTE) number for MUSC 185H. Please contact a member of the band staff with any questions or concerns about course enrollment.
