Claire Wang and Hongbo Cai are a UCLA-based piano duo bringing Chinese and diasporic perspectives to the concert stage. Their collaboration asks how music changes as it travels between places, generations, and listeners. The duo’s members have performed at Carnegie Hall, received the Guzik Sophia Foundation Scholarship and Van Lier Fellowship, and presented work at the Venice International Film Festival.
Combining classical performance with experience in photography, moving images, and sound, they create programs where different musical traditions can speak to one another without losing their differences. They approach the concert as a meeting place: somewhere a familiar piece can sound foreign again, and an unfamiliar voice can feel close.
