Celebrating Ravel's 150th birthday, UCLA professor and head of piano Inna Faliks performs his iconic, fiendishly difficult masterwork Gaspard de la Nuit, written in response to the poetry of the symbolist poet Aloyisius Bertrand. This triptych of Ondine, Le Gibet and Scarbo will be preceded by a performance of Ravel's sonata for violin and piano with Distinguished Professor Movses Pogossian and Faliks. The concert concludes with Faliks, joined by Varty Manouelian, violin, and Ben Hong, cello, in Shostakovich's 2nd Trio in E minor.
This event is made possible by the David and Irmgard Dobrow Fund. Classical music was a passion of the Dobrows, who established a generous endowment at The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music to make programs like this possible. We are proud to celebrate this program as part of the 2024 - 25 Dobrow Series.
