Grammy-winner Terence Blanchard named first Kenny Burrell Chair in Jazz Studies
Terence Blanchard is a six-time Grammy-winning jazz trumpeter, composer and music educator who in 2019 received an Oscar nomination for best original score for Spike Lee’s “BlacKkKlansman.” The chair was established to honor Burrell, a legendary jazz guitarist and composer, for his 20 years (from 1996 to 2016) as founder and director of jazz studies at UCLA.
Daniel Szabo wins the 4th Annual ASCAP Foundation Symphonic Jazz Orchestra Commissioning Prize
UCLA professor Daniel Szabo was selected from a pool of submissions from across the country, ranging from leading jazz veterans to promising young composers, as the recent winner of the ASCAP Foundation/Symphonic Jazz Orchestra Commissioning Prize.
