Joseph Pereira, Principal Timpani with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, presents a masterclass on the performance techniques and practices for various timpani parts from the orchestral repertoire. Pereira has appeared as soloist with the Philharmonic in addition to appearing regularly as a percussionist in the orchestra’s Green Umbrella series. Previously the Assistant Principal Timpanist/Section Percussionist of the New York Philharmonic, he currently runs the percussion studio at USC. Pereira will coach UCLA percussion students in preparation for auditions.
This event is made possible by the David and Irmgard Dobrow Fund. Classical music was a passion of the Dobrows, who established a generous endowment at The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music to make programs like this possible. We are proud to celebrate this program as part of the 2022 - 23 Dobrow Series.
