Resonate – Featuring Bent Frequency

contemporary
Schoenberg Hall View Program

The UCLA Music Library, UCLA Davise Fund for Contemporary Music, and Bent Frequency Duo Project (Jan Berry Baker, saxophone and Stuart Gerber, percussion) present Resonate: A Call for Scores Winning Concert.

Yi-Ting Lu, a Chicago -based composer from Taiwan, was selected as the winner of this call for scores for her work An Unopened Seashell. Organized by Matthew Vest and the UCLA Music Library, Resonate 2024 received more than 500 entries of saxophone, percussion and piano works from composers in 59 countries across six continents. The call was adjudicated by an independent panel of composers and Bent Frequency. Lu’s music draws from her own experiences and uses fragments of acoustic sounds to compose vivid imagery through her music. She has received various awards and honors for her compositions throughout her career, and her pieces have been featured in festivals and symposiums worldwide. “My piece explores the interaction between the saxophonist’s breath and the instrument, inviting listeners to experience a shared moment of breath, sound and presence.”

This concert also features west coast premieres by Judith Shatin and Robert Lemay as well as works by Karlheinz Stockhausen and George E. Lewis.

This event is supported by the Hugo and Christine Davise Fund for Contemporary Music.
