We are launching The Lab, a next stage of projects beyond the Internet Marketing and Branding for Musicians class. We’ll now have two types of opportunities for brands, bands, artists, venues, managers, and other music companies to work with our students.

Internet Marketing and Branding for Musicians

Since 2010 —  Spring of Each Year with 20-40 students

 

  • Project Length: 8-week projects with 1-3 students, focusing on data-driven marketing plans, website design, and social media platforms to launch marketing projects 6-12 months in the future
  • Number: Pre-approved with the Exec. Director/Faculty. 25 projects/term with undergraduate students in the Music Industry Minor at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music
  • Cost: Free to companies, though requires an hour a week minimum to work with the student team
  • Team: 1-3 students
  • Dates: April/May of each year

Next Generational Music Marketing Lab

New –  — variable term projects 

  • Length: Projects can range from 1 to 20 weeks, staffed by students who have completed Music Industry 122 (prev. 102); workload based on available time and/or internship pay/credit of available students
  • Cost: This will depend on complexity and time, Depends on project breadth, depth, and staffing; students may be paid as interns or through the Centerand also will require company time to participate.
  • Types of Projects: Based on projects that have participated in pilots to date, we expect wide breadth of project types, including:
  • Competitive analysis using social media analytics
  • Product launches
  • Live concert venue planning based on behavioral data
  • Community analysis
  • Exploration of immersive media products and production with artists and coders
  • Geotargeted marketing at events
  • Conversational computing (e.g. Alexa) research and choice architecture analysis
  • Website design
