A fantasy on five keyboards featuring David Kaplan, piano

Faculty Recital Series

Assistant Professor of Piano David Kaplan performs a program of keyboard fantasies including a new work by Christopher Cerrone (partially commissioned by the Hugo Davise Fund). This new composition is a fantasy-style piece inspired by fantasy from the past. The new work is joined with a performance of a prelude by Louis Couperin, and the Mozart C minor fantasy, K. 475. The program culminates with Beethoven’s Sonata, Op. 110, in which sonata and fantasy forms meet. Professor Kaplan will perform on replica instruments from the Herb Albert School of Music rare instrument archive including a Regier-Graf (on loan from Robert Winter), a Dowd harpsichord, a Belt replica of a 1790’s Viennese fortepiano, as well as the school’s new Yamaha CFX concert grand.

This event is made possible by the David and Irmgard Dobrow Fund. Classical music was a passion of the Dobrows, who established a generous endowment at The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music to make programs like this possible. We are proud to celebrate this program as part of the 2020 - 21 Dobrow Series.
