The third annual Day of Armenian Music at UCLA will showcase the depth and breadth of the Armenian Music Program. The noon concert presents AMP’s resident folk music and dance ensemble Lernazang featuring legendary singer Hasmik Harutyunyan and kamancha master Vardan Baghdasaryan. Also, duduk master Emmanuel Hovhannisyan appears as a guest artist for a folk-jazz set with pianist Roma Kanyan. 2022-23 VEM Fellows Max Ary and Adam Frary perform with their mentors. The concert will be followed by a community dance workshop with Natalie Kamajian just outside of the Schoenberg Hall, at the Dickson Court.
Afternoon program begins with a “Meet the Artist” session with UCLA professor Ian Krouse hosting internationally acclaimed composer and pianist Artur Avanesov (Armenia). Avanesov is also the featured composer in the afternoon concert. He will be joined by Varty Manouelian, Movses Pogossian, and the VEM Ensemble to perform his works along with those of Khosrovidukht, Gazarossian, Toumajan, Mirzoyan, and 2023 Mansurian Composition Competition Winner Jahan Raymond.
