Graham Haynes Residency: Conduction Workshop 1

Graham-Haynes
jazz
Band Room

Graham Haynes is an American cornetist, trumpeter and composer. The son of jazz drummer Roy Haynes, Graham is known for his work in nu jazz, fusing jazz with elements of hip hop and electronic music. During his residency, he will direct student instrumentalists and vocalists across genres and styles (jazz, classical, world, DJs, etc.) in a series of workshops that will explore the concept known as “conduction.” *Conduction® is the practice of conveying and interpreting a lexicon of directives to construct or modify sonic arrangement or composition; a structure-content exchange between composer/conductor and instrumentalists that provides the immediate possibility of initiating or altering harmony, melody, rhythm, tempo, progression, articulation, phrasing or form through the manipulation of pitch, dynamics (volume/intensity/density), timbre, duration, silence, and organization in real-time. – Lawrence D. “Butch” Morris (1947-2013)
