As part of their 4-part residency at UCLA, acclaimed French string quartet Quatuor Diotima performs compositions explicitly written for the ensemble by composers from Europe, Great Britain and the United States, including pieces by Rebecca Saunders (Unbreadth), Gérard Pesson (Bitmume), Helmut lachenmann (Grido), and UCLA Composition Professor David Lefkowitz (Four Works Exhibited).
Quatuor Diotima, one of the most in-demand chamber ensembles in the world today, is recognized worldwide for interdisciplinary collaborations that cast a new light on both masterpieces of the quartet canon and contemporary additions to the genre.
This program is made possible by the Joyce S. and Robert U. Nelson Fund. Robert Uriel Nelson was a revered musicologist and music professor at UCLA, who, together with his wife, established a generous endowment for the university to make programs like this possible.
