UCLA Philharmonia presents a special chamber orchestra program featuring an eclectic menu of 19th and 20th-century classics. A moving tribute to his mother, Pulitzer Prize winner George Walker’s Lyric for Strings is his most well-known orchestral work. Schubert and Prokofiev symphonies bubble with youthful energy and elegance. And Poulenc’s witty musical take – complete with narration -- on the beloved children’s stories by Jean de Brunhoff is a treat for audiences of all ages. The program is conducted by UC Santa Barbara choral and orchestral studies lecturer and UCLA DMA graduate Maxim Kuzin '18, and first-year UCLA graduate orchestral conductor Gemalene Acupan.
This event is made possible by the David and Irmgard Dobrow Fund. Classical music was a passion of the Dobrows, who established a generous endowment at The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music to make programs like this possible. We are proud to celebrate this program as part of the 2022 - 23 Dobrow Series.
