UCLA Philharmonia's second concert of the season features works of Beethoven, Bartók, Debussy, and Brazilian composer Antônio Carlos Gomes.
DMA candidate Bruno Nascimento introduces and conducts an excerpt from "Lo schiavo (The Slave)" an opera by Brazilian composer Antônio Carlos Gomes about which Nascimento is writing his dissertation. Second-year Masters student and 2019 Atwater Kent Concerto Competition winner, Brandon Zhou, performs Beethoven's sparkling Piano Concerto No. 1 with Zhou's original cadenzas. Glittery orchestral showpieces by Bartók and Debussy round out the program.
This event is made possible by the David and Irmgard Dobrow Fund. Classical music was a passion of the Dobrows, who established a generous endowment at The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music to make programs like this possible. We are proud to celebrate this program as part of the 2021 - 22 Dobrow Series.
