Housed within the full B-level of the Evelyn & Mo Ostin Music Center, the Mike Curb Foundation Music Facilities at UCLA bring a suite of resources to the Herb Alpert School of Music. Made possible through the visionary generosity of the Mike Curb Foundation, these facilities reflect Mike Curb’s enduring commitment to UCLA—a commitment that began in 2012 when, at the encouragement of his longtime friend Mo Ostin, he contributed to the construction of the school’s landmark music center. What began with the naming of a single basement space has grown into a comprehensive investment in the next generation of music makers, now realized in the reimagined Mike Curb Student Recording Facility.
The Mike Curb Music and Technology Lab encompasses the basement level of the Evelyn & Mo Ostin Music Center, affording space for teaching studios, student recording, and the space for students to practice the essential recording and mixing skills of the music industry.
The Mike Curb Student Recording Facility provides dedicated recording and mixing spaces—featuring a spacious control room—designed for soloists, vocalists, and ensembles pursuing artistic and academic projects. (This facility serves UCLA students only and is not available for external rental.)
The Mike Curb Computer and Keyboard Lab equips students with a suite of tools, including Apple iMacs loaded with ProTools 11, Logic X, Ableton 9, Finale, Sibelius, Max/MSP, digital keyboards, and headphones.
Together, these generously funded spaces form a dynamic, innovative hub where UCLA students and faculty can explore, create, and propel the future of music.
