Julian K. Petty
EVP and Head of Business and Legal Affairs of Warner Records

Julian K. Petty is the Executive Vice President and Head of Business and Legal Affairs of Warner Records f/k/a Warner Bros. Records (“Warner”).  In this role, Julian oversees all business affairs and legal functions of the label including negotiating and re-negotiating recording agreements, joint venture agreements, license agreements, distribution agreements, negotiating and settling audits, advising on general legal matters and providing overall strategic counsel to the C.E.O, C.O.O. and C.F.O. of Warner.

Prior to joining Warner, Julian was a partner and head of the Entertainment Practice Group of the international law firm Nixon Peabody LLP where he provided strategic career and business guidance to a variety of talent and corporate clients in music, TV, film, new media and book publishing.

Named a “top music lawyer” by Billboard magazine in 2018 and 2017, Julian’s talent clients included Childish Gambino, Vince Staples and Earl Sweatshirt as well as iconic acts A Tribe Called Quest, the Estate of Notorious B.I.G. and super producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. His corporate clients included Riot Games, Herschend Family Entertainment and Sheet Music Plus.Julian’s passion for the creative community originated during his first college internship at Def Jam Records.

Julian received his B.B.A from Howard University and his JD from Fordham University School of Law.  He resides in Los Angeles, CA with his wife Genelle and their daughters Grace and Genevieve.
