UCLA Armenian Music Program celebrates Aram Khachaturian’s 120th birth anniversary with a concert featuring esteemed pianist Armine Grigoryan, Director of the Aram Khachaturian House-Museum in Yerevan. Acclaimed pianist Sona Barseghyan will join Grigoryan to perform Khachaturian’s and Arno Babajanian and Alexander Arutiunian’s works on two pianos. The concert will close with a two piano and eight hands performance of famous “Sabre Dance ” from Gayane Ballet with the participation of guest artists from the LA Armenian community.

Performers
Armine Grigoryan is a professor at the Komitas State Conservatory and the Director of the Aram Khachaturian House-Museum in Yerevan. Having pursued her education at the Tchaikovsky Music School and Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan, Grigoryan completed her postgraduate studies under the guidance of Georgy Saradjian and Sergey Saradjian. As a soloist and chamber musician, Grigoryan toured the world and has been awarded numerous prizes, including the special medal of the Chamber of Deputies at the “Roma 2003” international piano competition and medals of the Ministry of Culture of Poland and Armenia. Since 2005, she has performed in concert halls such as Vienna’s Musikverein, Hamburg’s Laeiszhalle, London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall, and Tokyo’s Suntory Hall with the Aram Khachaturian Trio.
Sona Barseghyan earned her B.A. and M.A. degrees at the Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan, followed by her second M.A. and Ph.D. from the Cologne Conservatory. She attended the master classes of Norma Fisher, Vladimir Krainev, Phillippe Cassard, Evgeny Kissin, Tamas Ungar, Arkadiy Zenziper, Vadim Monastirskiy, and Leonel Morales. Decorated at a young age with an Armenian presidential medal for her achievements in classical music performance, Barseghyan has been a winner of multiple prizes in international competitions in Armenia, Georgia, Italy, France and Germany, including the International Karl Robert Kreiten competition in Cologne and the International Amadeo Prix competition in Aachen. As a soloist and chamber musician, she has toured the world and performed in major concert halls including the Carnegie Hall. Since 2011, she has been invited to perform at the International Music Festival in Schlern.
