Klezmer Workshop with Kurt Bjorling

Learn klezmer repertoire with the talented and versatile musician, Kurt Bjorling, who performs on basset-horn, bass clarinet, ‘tsimbl,’ saxophone, and accordion, is noted for a penetrating understanding of ‘klezmer’ music. He is the music director of the Chicago Klezmer Ensemble, founded in 1984.

Mizrahi Music Workshop with Sam Thomas

Learn Mizrahi music from master musician and vocalist, Sam Thomas. Samuel Torjman Thomas, Ph.D, is an ethnomusicologist and multi-instrumentalist (saxophone/clarinet, oud, nay, vocals), teaches music, interdisciplinary studies, and Sephardic Studies at the City University of New York. His performance and research work centers on North African, Middle Eastern, and jazz traditions.

Oklahoma-born, Texas-reared, and now living in New Orleans, multi-instrumentalist Mark Rubin is an unabashed Southern Jew, known equally for his muscular musicianship and larger-than-life persona. In this interactive program, Rubin will share music from and insights into his new album The Triumph of Assimilation.
