Rubén Funkahuatl Guevara is a native Angelino Chicano musician, singer and songwriter, a record producer of Chicano rock and roll and rock en español compilations, and a performance artist, poet, short story writer, historian, journalist, and activist. His newly published book Confessions of a Radical Chicano Doo-Wop Singer (University of California Press, 2018) is a moving memoir of his life and a compelling counter-history of the city of Los Angeles.

Cello Masterclass with Emilio Colón

American solo cellist, chamber musician, conductor, composer and pedagogue Emilio Colón will host a masterclass with UCLA cello students. The distinguished guest artist will share his wisdom about string technique and shed new light on musical interpretation while unlocking issues that students may struggle with.

The Music of Emigres and Exiles in Hollywood

The music of early Hollywood composers, including Arnold Schoenberg, Ernst Toch, Erich Korngold, Andre Previn, Kurt Weill, Eric Zeisl and others, will be featured in a concert performed by Ensemble for These Times, a music chamber group consisting of award-winning soprano, co-director and co-founder Nanette McGuinness, Van Cliburn competitor pianist Dale Tsang and cellist Anne Lerner-Wright.
