BA Music History and Industry
Jack Zager is currently a senior at UCLA’s Herb Alpert School of Music studying Music History & Industry. He is an active staff member of UCLA’s Hooligan Theatre Company and is currently directing Stephen Sondheim’s musical Sweeney Todd, featuring a cast and crew of all UCLA students from varied majors and departments. Previously, Jack was vocal director of Hooligan’s A Chorus Line and played Nick Bottom in Hooligan’s Something Rotten. This spring, Jack is slated to be one of the Musical Directors for UCLA’s Anew Theatre Company’s production of Spring Awakening. Jack’s been performing, songwriting and developing musical theatre shows since high school where he attended The Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA). He won the Foundation of New American Musical’s (FNAM) Show Search Competition, for Afikoman: The Musical, right here at UCLA.
Jack is also a trained vocalist and is a proud member and co-music director of UCLA’s Awaken A Cappella, SoCal’s first collegiate co-ed a cappella group. Awaken performs several times a year on-campus as well as at off-campus events, festivals and competitions throughout the West Coast.
Soon, Jack will be releasing a debut pop album with his sister, Lily Zager, that he and Lily recorded right at UCLA’s state-of-the-art recording studio. The album features many UCLA student musicians.
When not at school, Jack spent many years as a volunteer and is now a permanent Teaching Artist at The Miracle Project, a community of neurodiverse teens and young adults, where music and theatre is used to reach and breakthrough to those on the autism spectrum.
