Distinguished Lecture Series: Musicologist Gillian Rodger

Exploring the early history of variety theater and its connections to other musical theater forms including minstrelsy and burlesque, musicologist Gillian Rodger examines theater law in New York State, showing how variety theaters were run and how what could appear on their stages was shaped by changes to theater law and the threat of police raids.

Seraphic Fire – Masterclass

Two-time Grammy-nominated vocal ensemble Seraphic Fire presents a masterclass with the UCLA Chamber Singers, working with students on a variety of professional skills and presenting a town hall conversation about the in’s and out’s of a professional singing life on the road. 

Julie Landsman Horn Masterclass

Julie Landsman, Principal Horn of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra for 25 years and current faculty at the Juilliard School and Bard College Conservatory, hosts a Horn Masterclass including group Caruso Method exercises, UCLA horn students performances and feedback. 

Global Musics and Musical Communities (Day One)

This two-day conference explores how and why specific musical genres travel outside their countries of origin and lead to the formation of new musical communities. Day one of the conference features presentations of papers from renowned ethnomusicologists followed by a performance with Red Sun/SamulNori.

UCLA Percussion Ensemble

Members of the UCLA Percussion Ensemble perform contemporary chamber music including “Triptych Boom” by Chad Floyd,  “Symphony of Palms” by Gordon Hughes, “Sleepless” by Dan Moore and Maurice Ravel’s “String Quartet in F” arranged for Marimba Ensemble.
