On Friday, June 13, The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music honored our newest graduates in an engaging commencement celebration. Undergraduate speaker Mia Ruhman and graduate speaker Wade Dean delivered moving speeches. The keynote address was delivered by the famed mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves.
The commencement ceremony took place in Dickson Court North. The faculty and student processional was performed by The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music’s Commencement Brass Ensemble and the West African Drum Ensemble. The celebration was marked by a special presentation of Dr. Diane White-Clayton’s gospel song “One by One,” performed by the African-American Music Ensemble with Dr. James Lent accompanying on piano. The Alma Mater was sung by all graduating vocal students, under the direction of Professor Michael Dean. The faculty and newly-minted graduates recessed to the music of Mariachi de Uclatlán.
A reception was held at Dickson Court South.
We are proud of our graduates and their success. We wish them well as they take their leadership, creativity, and dedication to music out into the world.
