In the first Abell Piano Series of the year, hear pianist Daria Rabotkina in a recital of Schubert, Rachmaninoff and Paul Harvey Orandt. Later, watch as Rabotkina leads an educational masterclass with UCLA piano students.
Wonder Women Tech is once again hosting a large women and technology conference at the Long Beach Convention Center. Dr. Gigi Johnson, Exec. Opera UCLA participates in the Leonard Bernstein Centennial year with an evening dedicated to his theater music plus his late masterpiece SONGFEST, a collection of twelve beautiful settings of American poets. Scott Dunn will conduct the two piano version arranged by John Musto, and Victoria Kirsch will preside over the theater songs.
The UCLA Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band perform Ron Nelson’s “Homage to Perotin”, Shelley Hanson’s “Elegy for Albinoni”, and Paul Hindemith’s “Symphonic Metamorphosis on Themes by Carl Maria von Weber”.
The UCLA Wind Ensemble performs Brian Balmages’ “Fanfare Canzonique”, Johann Sebastian Bach’s “My Jesus! Oh, What Anguish”, and David Maslanka’s “Symphony No. 4”.

The UCLA Symphonic Band opens the concert with works by Cait Nishimura, Michael Daugherty, Frank Ticheli, and Alfred Reed. The UCLA Wind Ensemble follows with Timothy Mahr’s cheerful “Bright Side”, Jake Runestad’s wind transcription of his beloved choral work “Let My Love Be Heard”, and Michael Daugherty’s “Labyrinth of Love” for soprano and chamber winds, featuring Grammy Award winner Hila Plitmann.
