A Conversation with Industry Executive and Artist Manager, Michael Ostin

With over 35 years of experience in the music industry, Michael Ostin has been involved in recording and managing some of the biggest names in music including: Christopher Cross, Paul Simon, Madonna, and Green Day and others. The former Senior Vice President of A&R for Warner Records and as president of Dreamworks Records will share his unique perspective on the state of music, the music industry, and the arts in response to current challenges.

‘Survivors’ Music’ and Transitional Justice in Post-genocide Bosnia

In addition to the official transitional justice mechanisms established to address the 1995 Srebrenica genocide in Bosnia-Herzegovina, a large part of a transnational community of Srebrenica survivors has been engaged in a local musical practice to narrate, or testify about, their experiences of the genocide. This lecture will focus on this repertoire vis-à-vis official transitional justice mechanisms, and as a tool through which survivors express and claim their truth about the genocide.
