Nicholas Kitchen Rediscovers Beethoven

Nicholas Kitchen will lead a discussion of Beethoven based on his experience as the first violinist of the Borromeo String Quartet. The Borromeo was among the very first musicians to read off of computers and tablets, which they did in order for all members to read from the full score. This revealed expression marks in Beethoven’s manuscripts that are much more complex than what musicians see in print.

Dem Fideles Neshome: The Soul of the Fiddle

Leaders of the international klezmer and Yiddish music scene, Deborah Strauss and Cantor Jeff Warschauer share the creative process behind their own original compositions and song settings. The duo are soulful performers who draw from klezmer, Yiddish, Hasidic and liturgical music and culture. Their music is grounded in tradition, yet thoroughly contemporary.

Kirshbaum Masterclass for Strings

In this special live-streamed cello masterclass, Ralph Kirshbaum shares his insights and comments on four students’ pre-recorded performances of works by Bach and Haydn. He will also be inviting the students to interact in real-time, from locations in Canada, Taiwan, and California.
